Deeper Things Than These

Dear Friend,

I've been an awful blogger..

Please stay updated as I am planning to blog my summer in Thailand.

Do you ever go through the day stuck on the silly things that don't matter? Don't you hate it when life becomes a matter of waking up and just getting through the day...a matter of finishing a to-do list? God is rearranging my heart. Sometimes I'm discouraged at my lack of self-discipline...especially in spiritual disciplines , but then I remember to find hope in the fact that there is always room for growth! Where you and I are at is not where we will stay...the Spirit is searching our hearts, cleaning them out, and convicting. When you or I are so focused on the earthly, the petty, the selfish...
He is bringing to our attention deeper things than these.

When I begin worrying about the future: who or if I will marry, whether I should get a master's degree, where I will live, etc., He is bringing to my attention deeper things than these. When I get mad at the old man who cut me off in traffic or is making me late to work. He is bringing to my attention deeper things than this. When I'm taking a food order at Santa Fe and the crazy lady is taking out her repressed anger on me for a messed up order. He is bringing to my attention deeper things than this.

Today I went into Santa Fe to work on my counseling internship. I sat in the corner booth with my salsa and queso dip, and began to read a book by Gary Collins called, "Christian Coaching." One part really stuck out to me. "We work and we escape. We give everything we have to our work and then sit in a daze in front of the television at night. We fiddle around on the computer until early morning. We eat. We lose ourselves in magazines or novels or videos. We anesthetize with alcolhol. We do whatever will help us ignore the fact that we're living without a vision. In fact, we're not really even living at all. We're just existing.
"Without a vision, the people perish."

I don't know about you, but too often the above description is me. I had a conversation today with Joshua Wilson and Faisa that had much to do prayer. Have you ever noticed that the most influential Christians have the same thing in common? They pray. They pray without ceasing. They pray with focus, intention, and vision. Joshua and Faisa told me about a preacher in South Korea who is a preacher of one of the largest churches in Korea. He prays 3 hours a day, and if he's not done praying he will not answer his phone, etc. How many of us can say our time with God takes first priority? With prayer comes purpose, but "without a vision, the people perish."

Let's make prayer a priority in each day that God grants us. When the people start praying that's when this nation will be swept with revival. That's when the Spirit will work.
That's when we will see deeper things than these...
